To plan for your pre-game drills, and motivational speech should focus on many of the points below. This way your team will practices on the things needed to play better basketball just prior to game time. Layup and shooting drills alone are not enough if not teaching good box out and defense techniques.

-
Mental toughness – Game face / Intensity / Attitude.
-
Encourage Teammates – Physical and Verbal encouragement.
-
Teamwork (We not Me)
-
Trust your team (Coaches and Teammates)
-
Team defense – See your man and ball at all times, deny, help, defend the paint and box out.
-
Transition defense (Hustle back protect the basket, then your man)
-
Ball Pressure (Stay in front, no reaching and move your feet)
-
Protect the Ball – Good Passes, ball fakes, and controlled dribbling.
-
Communication (Ball, Ball, Ball; Help; Switch; Deny; Shot; Back; Go; Head-up; Reset; Tempo)
-
Transition offense (Rebound, Head-up, look to pass first before dribbling.
-

When you are on the court, play as hard as you can to win, but when the game is over, it's over! Proper attitude win or lose, respect your teammates and your opponents.
